REAL COSTS OF A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN SPAIN • Annual tuition for international students: between 1,500 and 4,500 EUR per year, depending on the region and the degree. • High-demand degrees, such as Medicine or Engineering, tend to have higher fees than Humanities or Social Sciences. • On top of that comes the cost of living: between 700 and 1,000 EUR per month in cities like Madrid or Barcelona, and less in mid-sized cities like Salamanca or Granada. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • Legalized and apostilled high school diploma. • UNED credential (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia): this is the document that validates your high school studies completed outside of Spain so you can take part in the university admissions process. • Legalized transcript of grades. • For some degrees, a specific entrance exam, for example in Fine Arts or Physical Education. • At some universities and for some degrees, you may need to take additional entrance tests or exams to improve your admission score. KEY DATES YOU CANNOT MISS • October to December: start the UNED credential process. It can take several months, so the sooner the better. • January to May: prepare for the entrance exam for Spanish public universities. • June to July: exam results, university pre-registration by region, admission results, and enrollment. • September: classes begin. SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID • Scholarships depend on each university and the requirements set for each program. • Some universities have their own scholarships for international students. • These options can be reviewed once the student has been admitted and is an active student at the university.
